Day 26 | Finding a Secret Place in Mumbai

Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

A unique pocket of ancient Hinduism hides in modern Mumbai hemmed in by skyscrapers and high-tech industry.

Banganga, a city within a city, is free of the over-powering bustle and even the pervasive smell of cow dung. The legend tells the story about Lord Rama resting here while on a mission to save Sita, his wife, from the Demon King Rayana. As soon as he shot his arrow, water oozed out of this spot and was regarded as a part of the Ganges River some 5000 miles away. The name came from two words: Baan means arrow and Ganga means River Ganges, but locals call it the sacred water tank.

Families picnic on the steps or bathe in the spiritual waters. It?s a great place to wander or sit for a little meditation or simply some peace of mind.
